Kansas City sports figures join cancer survivors for emotional night on the catwalk

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Cancer survivors walked the runway Friday night in a fashion show that brought together models, Kansas City sports stars and emotional moments of support.

The Bra Couture show has raised more than $6-million over its 16-years.

“There is something when you walk out and you’ll feel the energy. It’s indescribable,” said cancer survivor-turned model Becca Bell.

Some of the models were escorted by current and former Kansas City sports figures. Renee walked with former Royals stars Alex Gordon and Jeremy Guthrie.

Gordon’s mother was a two-time cancer survivor who walked the runway in 2017. His involvement Friday night helped bring in a $19,000 bid for the ensemble.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid took pictures with attendees throughout the night. Assistant head coach Dave Toub attended with his wife Cheryl, a cancer survivor who modeled at the event 13 years ago.

“My memory takes me back to when she walked down that stage. It was such an emotional thing. It brings me back to that day,” Dave Toub said.

Cheryl Toub has continued her involvement with the event, working with models behind the scenes.

“It is a walk of survivorship, so every model on our runway is a cancer survivor, either currently battling or past treatment,” Cheryl Toub said.

Jen Heck, wife of Chiefs assistant Andy Heck, was among the models Friday night.

“And we have Jen up there. My daughter’s here today, it’s going to be extra special,” Andy Heck said.

Coach Reid surprised the big crowd by escorting Jen Heck on the catwalk, along with Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones and several other Chiefs players.
